The Eritrean national team will not be participating in the 2015 edition of the CECAFA Senior Challenge after failing to submit their interest to participate by the set deadline of 20th October.
The CECAFA Secretary General Nicholas Musonye has confirmed the team has been struck out off the list of teams participating and a replacement from a number of teams that have expressed interest to take part as guests will be picked.
He noted that all other members have confirmed participation for the tournament set to commence on 21st November.
“All the member countries have confirmed they will be participating, except Eritrea. We had set a deadline for teams to participate as 20th October and so far we do not have their confirmation so they are out.
“We have a number of countries interested in participating so we will choose a replacement from there,” he told 366football.com.
Kenya are the defending champions after bagging the title in 2013.
