Kenyan international Eric Johanna has failed in his bid to land a deal at Swedish side AIK after the club indicated it will not be signing the midfielder, who has been among the star performers recently in the Kenyan football scene.
Johanna, the reigning Midfielder of the Year in the Kenyan Premier League (KPL), had a week of trials with the Swedish side but could not secure a deal by the closure of the transfer window, on Friday 12 August.
The club’s head of scouting Tobias Ackerman was quoted on Swedish football portal fotbolldirekt.se stating that Johanna was not the player they were looking for in the transfer and after watching him in two friendly matches and training, there will be no deal.
“It was not quite what we were looking for in this window. We chose not to go for him, so he has gone back home. I do not know what others have written about the date and other things, but we had not agreed anything other than up to the day the Swedish window closed (on Friday 12 August). So we fulfilled our part and he fulfilled his part,
“He made two U21 matches and a large number of training sessions for us, so we definitely got a clear picture. But we can say that it was not what we were looking for, at least not in this window,” he stated.
