Suwon Invitational Tournament: Denmark down Nigeria U-23s


The Nigeria U-23 team, the Dream Team VI were comprehensively thrashed  6-2 by the Denmark U-21 team at the ongoing Suwon Invitational tournament in South Korea on Saturday.

The Danes and  Nigeria lost their first games at the Suwon Tournament but the Danish team got their grove back on Saturday; scoring three goals each in the two halves to register a big win over the Dream Team VI.

Interestingly, Nigeria start the game quite well with Taiwo Awoniyi getting close to scoring in the early exchanges but that was all as the Danes settled in an started exploring the weakness in the Nigeria team.

Erhun Obanor conceded an early penalty kick after handling the ball with his hand but goal keeper Emmanuel Daniel was able to stop the kick.

Obanor moments later handed the Danes the lead when he conceded an own goal and the Danes built on the lead; scoring two more goals in the first half through Emil Larsen.

The first half ended 3-0 .

Larsen continued from where he stopped in the first half; scoring another goal 10 minutes into the second half to make the scores 4-0.

Thereafter Patrick Da Silva and Emiliano Marcondes added to the goals for Denmark before substitute Abdulrahman helped reduce the deficit for Nigeria with his brace.

Nigeria will now face Honduras in their last game in Suwon as they hope to bring back their pride heading to Rio Olympic Games.
