Ejike Uzoenyi will return to Mamelodi Sundowns if he fails to secure a contract with SuperSport United, a source close to the player have informed.
There were reports in some quarters that Sundowns could be forced to cancel the player’s contract if he doesn’t find a new club after they declared him surplus to requirement but it has been revealed to fcnaija.com that the ‘Brazilians’ will honour their deal with the player, even though they have no plans for him.
“He is training with SuperSport United at the moment and we hope they offer him a contract and in the event that they don’t, he will return to Sundowns as he has an existing contract there.
“There are no plans to terminate his contract or anything of the sort. He’s a good player who has suffered injuries and I’m sure he will bounce back,” the source said.
SuperSport still has one slot to fill their foreign quota and it is believed they are hoping the Nigerian impresses them well enough to sign him, but it remains unclear if they will be willing to match the R5m (which is over N60m in today’s exchange rate) annual salary he presently earns at Sundowns.
