The Kenya women national team, Harambee Starlets have been tipped the favorites as the CECAFA Women Championships return following a 30 – year miss and the team will be heading to Uganda full of confidence.
Kenya was drawn in Group A alongside Uganda, Zanzibar and Burundi but even as they participate in the tournament they will have an eye focused on the African Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) finals later in the year.
Team Manager Doreen Nabwire believes the tournament will present a good platform for them to prepare ahead of the AWCON tournament in Cameroon in November.
“It is a nice platform for us; the tournament comes at a good time, when we are just preparing for the AWCON tournament and we will be looking to gain a lot from it and it will also help- us gauge the progress of our players.
“It is a great opportunity for us and we will be looking to go as far as possible,” she said.
The team recently returned from a tour of Europe where it took part in the COTIF invitational tournament in Spain as part of the preparations for the AWCON tournament.
