Kenyan international Michael Olunga earned his third start for Swedish top flight side IF Djugardens as they suffered a 0 – 1 loss at the hands of Allsvenskan reigning champions Norkoping at the Tele2 Arena.
Sebastian Andersson headed home a Daniel Sjolund cross in the box to see the visiting Norrkoping register a win over their hosts.
Olunga, 22, was the first to record an attempt on the tenth minute, trying to finish from a tight angle in the penalty area but his shot was blocked for a fruitless corner.
A minute later, a cross from Bjorkstrom Tim fell was picked out by Olunga whose header went inches wide as the hosts started the match on a brighter note.
The first half ended in a barren draw and on the 57th minute, Olunga’s attempted left-foot volley from 25 yards veered off target.
Djugarden coach Pelle Olsson decided to pull out his attacking duo; throwing in Mathias Ranegie and Zimbabwean Tino Kadewere for Olunga and Jawo on the 70th and 76th minutes respectively.
After 13 matches, the Stockholm based side remains tenth on the 16-team table on 15 points, 12 below leaders Malmo FF and Norrkoping who sit top on 27 points. Djurgardens next visits Jonkopings Sodra on Monday 18 July.
