Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren missed the game against Leicester City due to an eye injury. His right eye is still partially closed, but he should be fine to play against Chelsea by Friday.
However German midfield dynamo Emre Can isn’t ready for the game at Stamford Bridge, confirms manager Jurgen Klopp.
“The players involved in the last game are until now all ready again plus Dejan (Lovren). Not the others, for example Emre. Emre’s not injured anymore, that’s good, but he needs to train, that’s how it is.
“He had a difficult pre-season with coming in later than most of the other players (due to Euro 2016). Then he had a bit of an injury, it’s not the best moment until now. He’s still a wonderful player but we have to make him fit.
“That’s what we do with him, that’s what we do with Mama (Sakho).”
It’s interesting that Klopp mentioned Sakho, so the Frenchman is not going to be frozen out. Yet, he needs to get fit, which is his problem so far.
Then there’s German keeper Loris Karius, who’s on the mend after his hand injury.
“Loris (Karius) is training a week now so all good.”
One wonders when or if Karius will eventually replace Simon Mignolet.
