Manchester United won the FA Cup for the 12th time, equalling Arsenal’s record courtesy a 2-1 win over Crystal Palace in the final played at Wembley on Sunday night.
Here are some of the best reactions by the managers, players, and pundits.
Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal: “It is fantastic to win this title for the club, for the fans, and also for me because I now have won the cup in four countries, and not many managers have done that.
“With 10 players, and we have played Tuesday evening also, but we have deserved it I think. It was a super goal eh?”
Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney: “A great advert for the Premier League, credit to Crystal Palace they’ve had a tough end to the season, but we worked really hard and our determination has got us through. I’m delighted. It’s a special moment. It’s a competition I have loved watching as a fan growing up, I’ve been to two finals and lost, so I will enjoy it tonight for sure.
“Look at the fans, winning trophies lifts football clubs. The fans have had a tough two years but hopefully they will enjoy tonight.”
Manchester United playmaker Juan Mata: “It’s more difficult when you are watching from the bench in the final but we never gave up and fought until the end. It’s been a tough season but we finish with good news for the fans.
“It was a great goal from Jesse. Today is a day to enjoy, especially for the fans as they have had a difficult year.”
Manchester United’s Jesse Lingard: “I seen it come across and it landed nicely for me, all I had to do was hit it sweet and luckily I did that. As a sub you always have to be ready. Thankfully I was.”
Manchester United’s David de Gea: “It was a great game, great goal, I think we deserved to win the final, now we have to enjoy. It’s a long time we don’t win the trophy, we fight for it, we have it. It’s really a good moment for us, for the fans, for everyone.”
Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew: “My players gave everything. Everything. And they deserved to win but the game is like that. We had a couple of decisions that went against us, big time. Connor was through, Wilfried had a penalty but I’m not going to bleat. Great performance from both teams, great final.
“It’s such a shame. We did a lot of things very well, we hurt them on the break, the referee didn’t help us but we grew into the game. I’m so proud of the club, we have been dignified in defeat and we look forward to next year.”
Crystal Palace defender Damien Delaney: “They were the better side on the day, we didn’t do ourselves justice. Fair play to them, no hard feelings from my part.
“It is what it is. There’s enough experience in this team.”
Danny Murphy, Ex-Liverpool midfielder at Wembley said: “Crystal Palace can be proud of the cup run they’ve had but ultimately they didn’t have enough quality. Unlucky to them, but Manchester United did deserve it.”
