Sserunkuma: I was targeted against Gor Mahia

Bandari forward Dan Sserunkuma says he was a target of bad tackles from the Gor Mahia defenders during the two teams’ DStv Super Cup clash at the Mbaraki Sports Club on Saturday 6 February.

The striker, who plied his trade at Gor Mahia for two and a half seasons until 2014, troubled the Gor Mahia defenders in the game and was the reason for defender Harun Shakava’s sending off and speaking to the official KPL website, he said he was scared he’d get a bad injury.

By half time the diminutive Ugandan had picked some heavy knocks and his coach had to withdraw him early in the second half. He says he was rested because the tackles were not relenting.

“I expected it to be a difficult match and it really was. You could see that I was a marked man throughout the game and I was worried that I would get a bad injury if I went all out. By half time I was limping because of the many deliberate knocks I had received from these guys.

“During half time, the coach asked me if I wanted to go on and I said ‘yes I will continue’ even though I was hurting physically. The Gor defenders did not relent on their treatment on me and that is when the coach decided to let me rest,” he said.
