The Kenya national team head coach Stanley Okumbi has made a change to the team called up for the upcoming friendly matches and 2017 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier, withdrawing defender Collins Shivachi.
Shivachi has been replaced by his team mate at Tusker Eugene Asike ahead of the team’s camp on Monday 23 May.
According to head coach Stanley Okumbi, quoted in a communique from the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), the right back has been omitted owing to fitness issues.
“It is true, we have replaced Shivachi with Asike. We are concerned with his fitness level and have thus decided to replace him as a precautionary measure,” Okumbi notes.
Shivachi, a regular in the Tusker starting team in the opening stages of the season, has lately been used sparingly by his club coach Paul Nkata. In the match against Kakamega Homeboyz, he spent the entire 90 minutes on the bench.
The national team will be taking on Sudan and Tanzania in international friendly matches on Friday 27 and Sunday 29 May respectively before taking on Congo – Brazzaville in the AFCON qualifier on Sunday 5 June.
