Rio Olympics: Colombia pick squad to face Nigeria, others


Colombia have named their  final 18-man squad for the men’s football event games of the Rio Olympics

Colombia’s Olympic team head coach, Carlos Restrepo named Sporting Lisbon forward Teofilo Gutiérrez, William Tesillo and Dorlan Pabon as the three over-aged players in his final 18-man roster.

Colombia who are staging a comeback in the men’s football event after last featuring at the Barcelona 1992 will be campaigning in Group B in Rio alongside Japan, Nigeria and Sweden.]

The South American side have never advanced past the group stage and they will hope to at least break that jinx in Rio.

In a similar manner like his  Nigerian counterpart, Samson Siasia has been lamenting, Restrepo admitted in a press conference that he had difficulty naming his squad after several European teams refused to release players for the competition.

Colombia will be starting out against Sweden at the Rio Olympics.

Full squad:

Goalkeepers: Cristian Bonilla, Luis Hurtado.

Defenders:Felipe Aguilar, Deivy Balanta,William Tesillo, Helibelton Palacios, Machado Deiver, Cristian Borja.

Midfielders: Sebastián Pérez, Jéfferson Lerma, Wilmar Barrios, Andrés Rentería, Kevin Balanta, Andres Felipe Roa.

Forwards: Harold Preciado, Teofilo Gutiérrez, Miguel Borja, Dorlan Pabon.

Alternate players: Juan Sebastian Quintero, Arley Rodriguez, Jarlan Barrera and Luis Vasquez.
