Super Eagles goalkeeper Carl Ikeme has hailed Tanzania goalkeeper Aishi Salum Manula for a job well done following a spectacular showing against Nigeria in Uyo yesterday.
The three-time African Champions defeated the Taifa stars 1-0 in the last Group G match of the 2017 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier courtesy a sublime goal from Manchester City youngster Kelechi Iheanacho.
Ikeme who was overwhelmed by the support of the fans that turned out for the game, also praised his opposite goalkeeper for putting in a good shift against the Super Eagles.
“Good result… , thanks for the fans who came to the game. Your support was amazing. Now we look forward to our World Cup qualifier next month 🙌🏾🇳🇬🇳🇬🇳🇬
“Also a special mention to the Tanzania goalkeeper on his debut!! Some great stops and it could’ve been a bigger defeat but for his saves 👏🏽”
However, the Super Eagles will not be at the 2017 AFCON as they could only finish second in the group behind Egypt who claimed top spot and the sole qualification ticket available after Chad pulled out.
Nigeria will battle Zambia in their first game of the 2018 World Cup qualifier on October 3.
