Former Tusker FC head coach Francis Kimanzi will soon be back in the top flight, with Mathare United hinted to be his most likely destination.
Kimanzi, winner of the 2008 Kenyan Premier League (KPL) title as the Mathare United coach, lost his job on his second season at Tusker after a bad year but reports from the Mathare United camp indicate that he is headed for a return to the team after Stanley Okumbi’s resignation on Monday.
The club chairman Bob Munro confirmed that Okumbi asked to step down as the head coach after handling the team for three years but was not committal on whether or not Kimanzi will be taking over only stating that a new technical bench will be named on Wednesday 9th December.
“Okumbi asked to step down stating personal reasons and I accepted his resignation and we have already lined up a replacement to be announced on Wednesday morning. I cannot state whether it is Kimanzi or not that we are looking at,” he said.
Mathare United finished the 2015 season in ninth place, a point outside the top half.
