National Super League (NSL) side Nzoia United lived to their billing as the giant killers in the GOtv Shield by eliminating the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champions Gor Mahia in the third round of the tournament in the clash staged in Mumias on Sunday.
Nzoia skipper Edgar Nzano scored the all important goal from the penalty spot as the team saw off the KPL giants and as expected, the win was a massive boost to their confiudence as put across by head coach Bernard Mwalala.
Currently unbeaten and sitting top of the second tier standings, Mwalala believes the win will spur the team further in the quest for promotion to the KPL.
“We did well; it was not a fluke. We took to the game the right character and it all went well for us because we could press and defend well at the same time.
“Now we are focused on the league and after the win, we have the morale and belief that we can achieve our dream of getting promoted to the KPL at the end of the season. We take on Shabana next and all our focus is trained on that match as we look to have a good run at this stage of the season,” he said.
