Kariobangi Sharks FC has joined Ulinzi Stars and KCB in the GOtv Shield semi finals after beating cup holders Bandari FC 5 – 4 on post match penalties after a 1 – 1 draw in regular time to secure their place in the tournament’s last four.
Kariobangi Sharks, a second tier side continued with the string of upsets that have seen a number of Kenyan Premier League (KPL) sides felled but the team was on the brink of being eliminated after a barrage of squandered chances in regular time.
Rodgers Omondi broke the deadlock for Sharks with a fine strike and they would have doubled the lead on the 55th minute but Pascal Ogweno missed a penalty after David Gateri had handled in the box.
Ugandan Musa Mudde brought Bandari back in the game with a 59th minute shot that beat Malcom Oigo to the far corner to send the game to penalties.
In the shootouts, Bandari FC’s Anthony Kimani, Edwin Lavatsa, Musa Mudde and David King’atua scored while Pascal Ogweno, Boniface Akenga, Ellie Asieche, Ibrahim Kitawi and Steven Odhiambo scored for Sharks.
