COPA Lagos: Isiaka dropped, Ibenegbu handed armband

Super Sand Eagles

Super Sand Eagles head coach Audu Adamu Ejo has confirmed that Bartholomew Ibenegbu will be leading his side when the 2015 COPA Lagos kicks off in December while also disclosing that the Sand Eagles will resume camping on Wednesday at the team’s Badagry camp.

Responding to media speculations that Isiaka Olawale has been dropped from the team, Ejo confirmed the exclusion of Isiaka from this year’s competition. In his absence, the captain-ship responsibilities has now been handed over to Bartholomew Ibenegbu.

“It’s time the young players take over from him in order to build on existing experience” Ejo said as quoted on the NFF official website.

Ejo also pointed out that the team needs to be fortified with young players so as to compete favourably with other national teams while also confirming that young and upcoming beach soccer players would be part of the squad for the 2015 edition of COPA Lagos.

“Super Sand Eagles missed out of the Beach Soccer World Cup in Portugal as such; there is a dire need to energize the team to compete at the African Nations Beach Tournament and the World Beach Soccer Cup. Ejo stated.

Copa Lagos, Nigeria’s highly entertaining international beach soccer tournament will hold this year at the Eko Atlantic City, Victoria Island, from Friday December 18 to Sunday December 20, 2015.
