Kenyan international Ali Abondo will be joining Premier Soccer League (PSL) side Ajax Cape Town after leaving the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champions Gor Mahia who terminated his contract upon his wish.
The midfielder had trials with the PSL side at the start of the year and a post on the Gor Mahia website states that the midfielder asked to be released even as he had a year left on his deal with the club.
The club chairman Ambrose Rachier is quoted as saying the KPL champions will not receive any money from his transfer as he will be leaving as a free agent having canceled his agreement with the club.
“Abondo made a request to terminate his contract so that he can pursue his wish and we had no option but to let him leave after a series of talks.
“There is no money the club got in that move because what was done was a termination of contract as per his request and that made him a free agent. We would have wished to get something but everything around that was a little bit tough and we couldn’t stand on his way,” Rachier is quoted as having said.
Abondo will be missed at K’Ogalo especially after playing a key role in Gor Mahia’s title winning campaign in 2015.
