It was an unforgettable evening for premier league duo Dimitri Payet and N’Golo Kante as they were both on target for France in their 4-2 friendly win against Russia at the Stade de France.
The stadium will stage the opening fixture of the 2016 Euro on June 10 — between France and Romania — as well as the final 30 days later and the match it was a good dress rehearsal for the host who have been in a fine form of late.
Coincidentally, the Stade de France was the venue targeted by suicide bombers last November during the international friendly between France and Germany.
But there were no such fears this time as France demolished their visitors in front of 65,000 spectators and it was Leicester midfielder Kante celebrating his 25th birthday that opened scoring.
It was his first international goal in the eighth minute, after he was put through by Antoine Griezmann before locating the bottom left-hand corner of the net.
Andre-Pierre Gignac made it 2-0 fron another Griezmann assist but the Russians got one back through Aleksandr Kokorin on 57 minutes, as he latched on to Alan Dzagoev’s free kick, before West Ham’s Dimitri Payet — who turned 29 today — scored Les Blues third goal just two minutes after coming on as a substitute with a 30-yard free-kick.
Bayern Munich winger Kingsley Coman made it four after Yuri Zhirkov had scored the second for the 2018 World Cup hosts to end the thrilling game by 4-2.
