Mohamed Elneny Basel team-mate Albian Ajeti has jumped the gun with a social media blunder as Arsenal look set to announce a deal for the Egyptian on Wednesday.
Elneny’s imminent move to Arsenal from FC Basel was confirmed by his team-mate Ajeti, fueling reports that the Gunners will announce the completion of the deal either on Wednesday or Thursday.
“I’m happy for you Mohamed El Nenny success in Arsenal.”The 18-year-old wrote on a Facebook post alongside a picture of the two together.
Only yesterday, in a statement on their website, Basel explained the midfielder’s absence from training because “there could be a transfer in the coming days”.
A fee of around £7.3m has been agreed for the 23-year-old and a medical completed – the only hold up is receiving international clearance for the Egyptian, although the issue is expected to be resolved.
Elneny is set to sign a four-and-a-half year deal at the Emirates as Arsenal look to complete their first signing of the January transfer window.
His expected arrival would mark Wenger’s first outfield signing for nearly a year. The Gunners only signed goalkeeper Petr Cech from Chelsea in the summer.
