Kenyan international striker Jesse Were has been named in the CAF Team of the Week; a group of 11 best performing players after the latest round of continental club matches.
The striker, who turns out for Zambian heavyweights Zesco United FC, was an outstanding player for his team as they traveled to Egypt and played to a 2 – 2 draw with African giants Al Ahly.
Joining Were in the best eleven are team mates John Ching’andu – a midfielder and defender Adama Ben Bahn.
Wydad, who are also through to the knockouts from Pool A provided four players in the team of the week, led by Congolese striker Fabrice Ondama.
Together with Ondama and Were, Zamalek’s Basem Morsi complete the front line.
Adama, Wydad’s Youssef Rabeh, Mourtada Fall and ASEC’s Konan N’gouan make the back line as Ahmed El Shenawy of Zamalek was picked as the keeper.
Were, the 2015 Kenyan Premier League (KPL) top scorer with 22 goals while at Tusker, has had a great start at the Zambian champions, after being shipped in as replacement for top striker Winston Kalengo.
He is one of the three Kenyans at the team, the others being Anthony Akumu and David Owino.
