The Democratic Republic of Congo has pulled out of the contention for a place in the 2016 African Women’s Championships, in effect, handing Kenya an easy passage to the second round of qualifiers.
Congo were supposed to take on Kenya in the first round of qualifiers but a communique from their federation indicated that the federation has been experiencing financial difficulties and will not be able to honour the game.
With the development, Kenya will be lying in wait for the winner between Ethiopia and Algeria who face off in a two legged tie on Saturday 5 March and a fortnight later and the FKF President Nick Mwendwa confirmed the Starlets will not leave camp just yet.
“The team will stay in camp for now because I understand there are friendly matches planned for them in the near future. We also want to give the coaches enough time to work with the girls because we have a lot of hope in them,” he said.
The team was scheduled to play Ethiopia in a friendly but that has been called off and will play two matches in the week before breaking.
