The Niger national team scheduled to take part in the fourth edition of the CHAN tournament on Tuesday 12 January took on ten time Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champions Tusker in a friendly match at the Ruaraka Stadium, beating the Kenyan giants 1 – 0.
Arsene Souley scored the solitary goal on the 57th minute following a Lloyd Wahome mistake in defence after he failed to clear Sakou Dela’s cross emanating from a corner kick.
The newly appointed Tusker FC head coach fielded all of his new signings, including Kenyan international David Okello who started in goal and kept a first half clean sheet before handing over to Duncan Ochieng in the second half.
The Niger team was dominant in the clash but failed to make the advantage count, spurning a number of good opening, the most culpable being skipper Sakou Dela who had a good chance on the 17th minute but his shot was well saved by Okello.
Tusker FC’s lone striker Clifford Alwanga had a great chance on the 35th minute but on a one against one situation with Niger goalie Alzouma Mount, he placed wide his attempt.
Niger will be in the country until Thursday 14 January when they leave for Rwanda to take part in the tournament. They are pooled in Group C alongside Nigeria, Guinea and Tunisia.
