Kenyan Premier League (KPL) giants AFC Leopards have registered disappointment with the ruling delivered by the Independent Disciplinary and Complaints Committee (IDCC), to fine the club Kshs 200,000 for its fans part in a scuffle with Posta Rangers goalkeeper Patrick Matasi.
The team’s fans were accused of roughing up the goalkeeper after a league match on Wednesday 3 August at the Nyayo National Stadium but the club through Secretary General Oscar Mafunga has termed the ruling harsh.
The Sec Gen said the club cannot be blamed for failings with match day security yet they were playing as the away team.
He further stated that the team will be appealing the ruling at the Sports Disputes Tribunal.
“I think that is a harsh and unfair ruling because we were not the home team so it was not upon us to provide security. They as well blocked our stewards from accessing the perimeter as well as failing to provide enough policemen to ensure security.
“For that we think it was not a very fair ruling as we shall be looking at the option of appealing,” he said.
