FC Ifeanyi Ubah on Wednesday defeated Warri Wolves 1-0 courtesy of an Adeleye Olaminekan 1st half goal, to book a semifinal spot in the 2016 Federation Cup and thus extending their unbeaten run to nine matches in all competitions.
The match which took place at the MKO Abiola Abeokuta started in a very frantic pace with both teams getting early chances but it was Warri Wolves who got the 1st clear cut chance in the 3rd minute when striker Osanga King tapped in a beautiful cross from the left side, however his joy was cut short as the assistant in the far side raised his flag for an offside
The was a wake up call for the FCIU players as they begin to control possession and dictate the tempo of the game and in the 30th minute of play, after get a few decent chances their efforts paid off as Alberto Da Silva’s inch perfect free kick was headed into the net by Nigeria U23 International, Adeleye Olaminekan.
The match was halted for several minutes as players and staff of Warri Wolves protested to the match officials, arguing that the goal should not count.
After initially refusing to play, the Warri Wolves players returned to the field of play, however, after resumption of play, there was little or no clear cut chances before half time, and it ended 1-0 in favor of FCIU.
The 2nd half resumed with FCIU at the attack with Tamen Medrano nearly doubling the lead in the 55th minute when his long range effort hit the cross bar.
They was really nothing to report in the remainder of the 2nd half as FCIU mainly controlled the tempo of the match and tried to protect their lead until the 88th minute when Warri Wolves striker Itordo capitalized on a mistake by FCIU keeper, Edwin Nwakanma, and put the ball into the back of the net but once again to his disappointed the assistant at the far side flagged him offside.
This didn’t go down well with the players and officials of Warri Wolves as they protested to the referee, and consequently leaving the pitch of play, thus abandoning the game.
