Nigerian duo of Sadiq Umar and Abdullahi Nura has joined Serie A giants AS Roma from Serie B side Spezia for a combined fee of €5million.
Both were on loan at the Rome based side last season but the club has now confirmed four-year contracts at Stadio Olimpico for them following their impressive short spell with the Luciano Spalletti side.
Sadiq scored two goals in six Serie A appearances for Roma last season and was reportedly being tracked by Arsenal, Tottenham, and Bayern Munich.
Former assistant manager to the Flying Eagles, Nduka Ugbade described 19-year-old Sadiq as a special talent.
“Sadiq is a special talent,” he said. “He was with us when we were preparing for the last U-2-0 World Cup but had to be excused to go back to Roma and finalise his deal then with the club.”
Nura who is a right-back did not play in the Roma first team but excelled with the developmental squad as he made 11 appearances in Roma’s Primavera youth side in 2015-16, scoring three goals as they won the Primavera title.
