Kenyan Premier League (KPL) giants AFC Leopards will not be signing Nigerian forward Abbas Akinyemi, the club’s Belgian coach Ivan Minnaert has confirmed.
The lanky Nigerian trained with AFC Leopards for a better part of the past week and was hoping to get a deal after ending his stay with Muhoroni Youth but Minnaert has stated that he is not the player who would fit in his philosophy.
The coach had praise for the player’s prowess but the Nigerian was not part of the team when Ingwe took on National Super League (NSL) side in a Sunday friendly match at City Stadium, fueling the reports that indeed, he will not be signed.
“I will not be signing him; not for now. I have a plan for the team and though he is a good player, he does not fit in my style of play and I will not be getting him for now. I just hope he finds a club since he is a very good player,” Minnaert stated.
Abbas has plied his trade across a number of clubs in the KPL since making his bow in Kenya with Sofapaka in 2010.
