Kenyan international Jesse Were will not be eligible for his team, Zesco United when the Zambian champions welcome Egyptian giants Al Ahly in the two sides’ Group A clash of the CAF Champions League on Saturday 18 June.
Were will not be the team’s only suspended player, Adama Ben Bahn, his team mate is also ineligible, having accumulated yellow cards, the latest which came against Stade Malien in their last encounter in the preliminaries.
This is the second time that Zesco United be up against the eight – time African champions in the competition following their previous encounter in the knockout stages in 2011. Zesco drew 0-0 at home before losing 1-0 away in Cairo at the pre-group stage that season.
Two other Kenyan internationals, David Owino and Anthony Akumu, who turn out for Zesco, are however free to feature for the Zambian champions.
Zesco are currently third on the Zambia Super League table with 22 points, six points below leaders Nkana though they have played two games less than their opponents.
