Mamelodi Sundowns star Khama Billiat has been named the 2015-16 Goal PSL Player of the Season.
The 25-year-old scored 13 goals in all competitions, providing 20 assists for the Telkom Knockout and South African PSL champions.
Goal.com South Africa Chief Editor Ignat Manjoo announced the prizewinner.
“Khama is the deserved winner of this season’s award,” stated Manjoo on Goal.com
“This time Zimbabwe international Billiat was also impressive in qualifying his nation for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations, an achievement that was taken into consideration. Of course we mentioned that all performances in South African domestic competitions, not just the league will be considered. We also take into account Caf competitions for those players in the PSL.
“Then we consider the massive input we get from legendary PSL players, coaches and current stars in the naming of our winner. Ultimately, we selected Billiat because of his dominance within the attacking force in making the CBD (that also includes Castro and Dolly) of Sundowns function. This attacking force was the ingredient that won them the ABSA Premiership title.”
The player, Khama Billiat himself was honoured for picking up another award, after also winning at his club Mamelodi Sundowns.
“It is a great feeling, you look at it when you have been working hard and your work has been recognised – it feels amazing. I am really humbled by this award,” Billiat told Goal.com
“It feels great, when you look around and see players like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo also honoured by the website, then you think twice…what exactly am I doing to deserve this? When I look at all the work I have been putting in, the time I have sacrificed to do what I love to do…I really appreciate everyone who voted for me. It truly means a lot.”
