In today’s AFCON Under-20 Nations Cup qualifier between Sudan and Nigeria, the Flying Eagles have settled to wear the all-white jersey ahead of the customary all-green while their hosts will be on their traditional all-red outfit.
The match with Sudan will kick off at 8pm Sudanese time ( 6pm Nigerian time) and the seven time African champions led by the World Cup winning manager Emmanuel Amuneke is primed for battle.
The Flying Eagles arrived Sudan late on Friday but found just enough time to train under floodlight on the artificial pitch beside the Sudan Football Federation premises.
Friday warm up routine lasted for just one hour but it afforded the players an opportunity to loosen up from the jet lag after a long journey that saw the team had a brief stopover in Addis Ababa before connecting another flight to Khartoum.
On Saturday, the Flying Eagles had their first feel of the very bumpy Almerreikh stadium owned by the popular Almerreikh Football Club of Sudan.
The poorly marked pitch has been left unattended for, till Friday when grounds men were summoned to work. Their effort did little to fine-tune the playing surface of the forty thousand capacity stadium.
The Flying Eagles again trained for one hour, starting from 8pm Sudanese time that is 6pm Nigeria time.
Saturday’s session focused on ball work, passing drills and shooting from range.
