Kenyan international Victor Wanyama got his fourth straight start for Tottenham Hotspurs as the North London side registered their biggest win in the season so far, a 4 – 0 beating of hosts Stoke City in the Saturday 10 September league match at the Bet365 Stadium.
Wanyama, however, for the first time in his Tottenham Hotspurs career failed to last the entire match as he was withdrawn on the 55th minute, his place taken up by Argentine Erik Lamela, Wanyama having also picked his first booking in the Spurs jersey on the 45th minute.
The hosts were never billed to threaten the Londoners in the match but they still managed to hold on to the 41 minute when Cristian Eriksen picked out Heung Min Son to score the opener and see Spurs head to the break leading.
Ten minutes after the restart Eriksen was at it again with an assist for Heung to score the second and three minutes later Dele Alli put the game beyond Stoke’s reach with a third goal off Kyle Walker’s assist.
On the 70th minute, Harry Kane wrapped it up with the fourth goal in the game and his first in the season after picking Heung’s pass to see Spurs register an emphatic win ahead of their return to the Champions League.
The win propelled Tottenham to fourth on the log with eight points while Stoke remained bottom of the log with just a point from four matches.
