Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champions Gor Mahia are swimming in millions following the unveiling of a sponsorship deal with sports betting company SportPesa that will run for the next five years.
The deal was unveiled on Friday 4 March at the Hotel Intercontinental, Nairobi and though it was not stated how much money the deal involves, the Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier was a relieved man.
The lub has spent the past two seasons with no sponsor after dairy firm Tuzo pulled out and Rachier says it will ease the burden of running the team on him.
“It is a relief because most of the time I have been forced to use my own money to finance the club. I am very pleased and I want to thank Sportpesa for coming on board. The club has endured tough times and this is joy for everyone,” Rachier said.
He added; “I want to thank the players and the technical bench members who had to endure months without pay. Now, this is a thing of the past,” he added.
