Barclays Premier League side Southampton FC is hopeful of tying down Kenyan international Victor Wanyama with the player attracting a lot of interest from a number of premier league sides.
Tottenham Hotspurs, currently managed by former Southampton boss Mauricio Pochettino and Arsenal are among clubs the midfielder has been linked with and the Saints are looking to keep him for the long haul.
Wanyama is a key man in the Southampton midfield and has just over a year to go on his contract and Telegraph reports that the Saints have opened talks with Wanyama over a new deal to wade off interest from rival clubs and are confident that the former Celtic man will agree to sign a new deal with the side.
Wanyama joined Southampton from Celtic in 2012 on a 12 million pounds move.
He was close to joining Tottenham in the summer before Southampton pulled a plug on the deal.
