Kenyan international Victor Wanyama missed out on a second Man of the Match accolade this season after being edged by Son Heung – min following an impressive show against Midlesbrough on Saturday 24 September.
The Korean scored twice for the second straight away game and in a poll on the club website, was voted the Man of the Match, for the third straight time, beating Wanyama and Cristian Eriksen.
Wanyama and Eriksen, just like Son, put in a shift in midfield and after a great afternoon, the three were nominated for the award and Son walked away with 90% of the votes as Wanyama and Eriksen managed 5% apiece.
Son, speaking after the match, termed it unbelievable scoring four goals in two away matches but admitted it was not easy, especially after being under pressure in the second half of the Saturday game.
“It was unbelievable, scoring two away goals against Middlesbrough after scoring two at Stoke, twice in a row in away games. I’m very happy to score two goals and get the three points.”
“It wasn’t easy in the second half because they scored in the 20th minute (of the second half) and then we had to defend. The most important thing is the three points. It was a difficult game, we defended well after they scored and I’m thankful for my team-mates.
