The 2009 Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champions Sofapaka found the going tough in Nyanza as Muhoroni Youth claimed a 1 – 0 win over the Nairobi side in the clash played in Awassi on Saturday 20 February.
Controversial striker Wycliffe Ochomo, who has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons grabbed the all important goal on the half hour mark to see his team bag the first win of the season after opening with a 0 – 2 loss to Posta Rangers.
Elsewhere, Ulinzi Stars downed Tusker FC 2 – 0 at the Machakos County Stadium in another game played on the day.
New signing Joseph Kuria and last season’s top scorer John Mark Makwatta netted the goals that saw head coach Robert Matano pull one over his former employers.
The win saw Ulinzi Stars, who drew their opening match with Sony Sugar, rise to the summit of the league temporarily.
In Nairobi, at the Nyayo National Stadium, Thika United struck at the death to force a 1 – 1 draw with Ushuru FC.
Dennis Kalama Wafula netted the opener for Ushuru on the 30th minute but his goal was cancelled out by Kennedy Otieno on the 93rd minute.
