The 2008 Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champions Mathare United tasted their first defeat of the season after going down 0 – 2 to visiting City Stars in one of the KPL matches played on Wednesday 30 March as league action resumed after the international break.
Ezekiel Odera and Oscar Mbugua netted the goals that not only condemned Mathare United to the first loss but also served the first win for the Kawangare side.
Out in Kisumu, Sofapaka were served their fifth straight loss, a 1 – 0 beating by Western Stima at the Moi Stadium. Francis Ocholla scored the lone goal that also ensured Stima gets the second win of the season.
At the Coast, hosts Bandari FC had to claw their way back into the match against Ulinzi Stars to eke out a 1 – 1 draw. The visitors scored first through Cliff Kasuti but Shaban Kenga struck just before the break to see the teams share spoils.
In Awasi, Chemelil Sugar suffered their heaviest loss of the season, going down 0 – 3 to visiting Tusker. Debutant Luis Tera Misiko got the opener before Steven Owusu doubled for the Brewers and James Omino, getting his first start, turned into his own net to complete the rout.
Close by, at the Muhoroni Stadium, Muhoroni Youth suffered yet another home loss, going down 1 – 2 to the visiting Ushuru FC. Charles Okwemba scored first for Ushuru but the celebrations were cut short by a Wycliffe Ochomo header. Dennis Wafula struck late to sink the home side.
At the Ruaraka Stadium, Sony Sugar was hoping for a first win but was pegged back by a resolute Posta Rangers side. Robert Omonuk scored the opener for Sony Sugar but Timothy Otieno netted the leveler to see the teams share spoils.
