Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone says he doesn’t expect much surprise from Barcelona when both teams face on Tuesday in the first leg Champions League quarterfinal clash at Nou Camp.
Atletico are six points behind Barca in La Liga and know while upturning the table and winning the title in Spain is a bit more difficult, they however stand a better chance of getting one over Barca – a place in the semifinals of the Champions League – and he says both teams are used to each other.
“Both teams know each other very well,” he began. “So I don’t think there is much room for surprise. They play a specific type of football and they play spectacular well under Luis Enrique.”
The fiery Simeone however posited that Barcelona’s El Classico loss to Real Madrid over the weekend will not affect their tactics against them, and says they always expect the best from the European champions.
“I don’t think Barcelona’s defeat by Real Madrid will affect our game. We always expect the best of Barcelona. They will definitely be up for it, playing at home. They are strong, tough opponents.
“We are used to seeing MSN [Messi, Suárez, Neymar], with all the individual qualities that make Barcelona even better. Hopefully they will face the best of us as well. It is important that all my players understand that one minute on the pitch will be a lifetime,” he concluded.
While Barcelona lost over the weekend, Atletico recorded a massive 5-1 win over Real Betis to cut the gap at the top of the table to six points.
