Super Eagles interim Head Coach, Samson Siasia has expressed faith in Watford striker Odion Ighalo to score in the two-legged 2017 AFCON qualifiers in Kaduna and Alexandria against the Pharaohs of Egypt.
Many fans have expressed fears that Ighalo has lost his scoring touch; having fired blanks all year but Siasia says he believes the Watford forward will score the goals that will help sink the Pharaohs.
“I have been talking with Ighalo and I am confident he would score goals for me against Egypt. I am not worried that he has yet to score this year for his English premier league side Watford FC.
Nigerians should be calm because Ighalo will score goals against Egypt in Nigeria and in Alexandria for the second leg,” Siasia told reporters in Abuja
The interim Eagles boss added: “I know Ighalo for years now and I think I know what he is capable of doing. If he is in the right mood and gets the right delivery from the necessary quarters – I mean the midfield – I am sure he would bang in the goals against any team.
“I can assure you that Odion is desperate to deliver against Egypt because he knows the importance of the two matches and he told me, “Coach I want to be in Gabon o,” so no Pharaoh or Pharaohs can stop us from getting the 2017 AFCON ticket.
“At times it happens like that to strikers but they can also quickly come back and start scoring goals at will. I am very optimistic that Odion will score for us against Egypt,” Siasia concluded
Ighalo has 14 goals to his name this season but none has come from him in 2016
