Nigeria Olympic Games football team coach Samson Siasia has confirmed his players refused to train at a point during the Olympic Games, as revelations of what transpired in Brazil begins to emerge.
Siasia has also claimed they are yet to get their allowances for winning the Bronze medal at the just concluded Games in Brazil.
The Nigerian side defeated Honduras 3-2 to win the Bronze and Siasia, who also insists he is yet to be paid his salaries for five months, says he and his team are yet to receive their bonuses for winning the Bronze at the Olympics.
The Dream Team had failed to train at a point, and there were reports they had threatened to boycott the quarterfinal game against Denmark because they were yet to be paid their match bonuses, and Siasia confirmed this much.
He said: “They said no match bonuses when the Games began, but they didn’t tell us this before the tournament.
“They then said they would pay us bonuses only when we got to the medal stages but up till now, we don’t even know how much for the Bronze we won.
“Those things haven’t been broken down to us, but all the same, we had our daily allowances owed and when the players saw that they weren’t being taken seriously, they refused to train which I am in support of because there was nothing coming to the team right from Atlanta to Manaus.
“Not one penny. It was when the players cried that they came with 11 days daily allowance and that was all they gave us,” Siasia added.
There were so much controversy that trailed Nigeria’s participation at the Games, and already there have been reports that the sports ministry will instigate a probe to find out what really happened.
