Outstanding Bandari FC defender Mohamed Sharif has been crowned March Sportpesa/SJAK Footballer of the Month. The 24 year-old has been a bulwark in the FKF Shield Cup Champions’ defense and won the vote ahead of AFC Leopards duo of Lucas Indeche and Kepha Aswani as well as City Stars captain Oscar Mbugua.
Sharif becomes the second winner of the monthly gong in 2016 after Timothy Otieno who scooped the February accolade. The soft spoken player who also earned national team call up this year received a brand new 42 inch television set from LG Electronics as well as Sh100000 from Sportpesa as the rest of the squad got Sh50000.
Sharif won the vote in an otherwise average month for the club earning 30 points from a vote carried by sports journalists. City Stars skipper Mbugua and free scoring Aswani tied in second place with 26 points while Indeche had 15 points.
The award comes as a boost to Bandari who were held to a one all draw by promoted Posta Rangers last weekend and face Western Stima in their next league match at Kisumu’s Moi stadium. Coach Twahir Muhidin added his praise to the player saying it couldn’t have come at a better time for the club.
“We have been working hard in our practice and trying to win our matches and now this recognition can only spur our resolve to play even better. I’m sure it will motivate even the other players to work hard and win it next month.” Muhidin said
The elated Sharif dedicated his award to teammates who he says helped him shine in the month. “I’m happy to awarded for what I do on the pitch. It is a first one for me at this level and I must sy it is a result of team work. I always strive to be the best but in football you must be complimented by your teammates in order to shine.” He said
