In the Serie A round-up this week, we take a look at how the season is turning out in Italy, what teams are aiming for the title, what teams are battling for the European places and what teams are struggling against the drop.
Juventus will now have to pray AC Milan do them a favour by beating Napoli on Monday after they drew 0-0 with Bologna on Friday night. The Old Lady failed to temporarily extend their lead, which will be usurped if Napoli beats Milan.
The Rossoneri, besides the world of good they would do to Juventus if they beat Napoli, they also know must win to keep the pace with rivals Inter and Roma for the other European places. A loss may be too much for them to recover from.
Meanwhile at the foot of the table, Frosinone managed to hold Lazio to a goalless draw at home but that wasn’t enough to get them out of the danger zone. Rock-bottom Verona defeated Chievo 3-1 but it might be too late for them to save themselves as they remain rooted to the bottom with just 18 points.
Sampdoria moved ever closer to the drop-zone, with just two points separating them with Frosinone, who occupy the last relegation place. They were beaten 3-1 by Roberto Mancini’s Inter. Carpi, meanwhile, drew goalless at Torino.
in other games, Atalanta lost 2-3 at home to Fiorentina, while Genoa beat Udinese 2-1. And Sassuolo defeated Empoli 3-2.
Roma ran riot against Pelermo, beating them 5-0 at the Stadio Olimpico.
