Inter Milan missed the opportunity to reclaim top spot in Serie A, after a stalemate with Juventus in Sunday’s derby d’Italia.
In a hard-fought encounter at the San Siro stadium, the Nerazurri’s almost broke the deadlock in the 27th minute but Juve shotstopper Gianluigi Buffon tipped Marcelo Brozovic’s curled shot onto the crossbar.
The outcome of this encounter has confined Roberto Mancini’s men in third place, level on 17 points with second-place Roma who defeated with a 3-1 win at the Stadio Olimpico on Saturday, while Juventus will seek to up the ante when they trade tackles against German side Borussia Monchengladbach midweek in the Uefa Champions League.
Meanwhile, league leaders Fiorentina fell at the hands of Napoli with a 2-1 loss. Gonzalo Higuain struck the winner 15 minutes from time as Naples clinched their third straight league win and a respectable fourth place on the Serie A log.
Elsewhere, AC Milan’s poor form showed no improvement as they were held to a 1-1 draw against Torino in Turin which left their Sinisa Mihaijlovic fuming with anger on the goalscoring opportunities missed by the Rossoneri.
At the lower end of the table, it’s business as usual as Bologna and Carpi lost their respective games to Palermo and Atalanta, while Verona managed a 1-1 draw with Udinese at home.
