Nigeria Olympic football team coach Samson Siasia appears to have been sidelined from his role by sports minister Solomon Dalung, sources have informed fcnaija.com.
Dalung is displeased over comments made by Siasia last week regarding the lack of attention given to his team, and he has now barred the former Nigeria international from communicating with the players.
“Mikel is the one doing all the work here, coach has been told not to speak to us and I really don’t know what is happening,” one of the players informed.
Fcnaija.com can also confirm that as at 5pm Nigerian time (12pm Atlanta time), the team was still in their hotel rooms in the United States, with no news on when they will be leaving for Brazil.
Nigeria’s preparation for the football event of the Rio Olympics has been marred by controversies with teams unsure of arrangements made for them to travel to the Games.
The Nigerian team open their campaign against Japan by 2am Nigerian time on Friday, but are still yet to leave for South America, just over 24 hours to the game.
