Santos dished out a 4-0 beating to Cape Town All Stars in a Cape NFD derby at a scorching hot Athlone Stadium on Friday afternoon.
The win was the first of 2016 for the Peoples’ Team, while for the Gugulethu-based club, it was a third consecutive defeat in the NFD.
After a fairly evenly balanced start to proceedings, Santos were ahead on 18 minutes through a clinically taken Carl Lark header.
The lead was doubled five minutes later when Kpah Sherman, Santos’ new signing, struck with a volley, a fantastic strike from a free kick by Suhayl Allie in first half added time given Zeca Marques’ side a 3-0 advantage at the break.
Igugu Lekapa were close to pulling a goal back in the 75th minute, but Rodwell Bezuidenhout’s free kick struck the woodwork.
Instead it was the rampant Santos who were to score again, Devin Saal lobbing Stars keeper Kyle Peters with a 35-yard effort.
