Ajax Cape Town got their 2016 CAF Confederations Cup campaign off to a great start with a 2-1 win over GD Sagrada Esperanca at the Estadio Sagrada Esperanca, with the two away goals coming from Ruzaigh Gamildien and Riyaad Norodien.
The match started off with the Urban Warriors quickly stamping their authority early on, which ultimately led to an early goal by Ruzaigh Gamildien, who proved his quality once again by getting on the score sheet when getting the opportunity to start.
The Urban Warriors’ 1-0 lead was short-lived as Sagrada were awarded a penalty just four minutes later. The resultant penalty was converted by Antonio Oliviera to level matters.
There were a few chances for Ajax to take the lead in the second half, it was Riyaad Norodien who stepped up and grabbed the winner in the 53rd minute.
Despite the hosts trying their best to draw level once again, the Urban Warriors managed to see out the remainder of the match to claim a valuable 2-1 lead going into the second leg.
