Manchester United’s 18-year-old striker Marcus Rashford is the surprise inclusion in England’s initial 26-man squad for the European Cup.
Hodgson will need to trim it down to a 23-man squad on 31 May.
Other surprise returns include Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere and Newcastle United winger Andros Townsend, the former has just returned from injury.
The big players not to get selected are Arsenal forward Theo Walcott and Everton defender Phil Jagielka.
“There’s no reason why he can’t knock someone off their perch, but it will be harder than some people might expect.”
