Portugal star Cristiano Ronaldo saw his participation on the Euro 2016 Championships come to a crashing end after just 25 minutes in the final against France following an earlier challenge from Dimitri Payet but had a smile at the end of it as Eder’s extra time goal won it.
The title win was Portugal’s first at the international stage and Ronaldo was obviously elated to be part of it after winning everything at individual and club level.
The Real Madrid man cheered on his team-mates and shouted instructions from the sidelines in animated fashion during the frantic final moments of extra time and after losing in the final in 2004, he was ecstatic.
“I am very happy. I have been looking for this for a long time, since 2004. I asked God for another chance at this because we deserved it. Today I was unfortunate, I was injured but I always believed that these players, together with the strategy, would be strong enough to beat France.
“This is one of the happiest moments in my career, I always said I’d like to win something with Portugal.” He said.
