Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane’s preparation for the La Liga clash against Villarreal on Wednesday 21 September has been handed a massive boost with the return to fitness of the key duo of Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale.
The two missed the Sunday 18 September 2 – 0 win against Espanyol as Zidane opted to rest them, having registered concerns after the labored win over Sporting Lisbon earlier on in the Champions League.
Ronaldo has been restricted to just two appearances in all competitions for the European champions after injuring his knee in the Euro 2016 final.
He was ruled out of the trip to the Estadi Cornella-El Prat with flu, while Bale was nursing a hip injury he sustained in Tuesday’s dramatic Champions League victory over Sporting Lisbon but Zidane, in his pre match comments before the midweek game said they are fine and trained well.
“They are fine. They have trained normally. The two of them are 100 percent,” he said.
Having matched the 16-game winning streak Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona achieved in 2010/11, Real will be looking to go one better, while, at the same time, extending their impressive start to the season, after winning each of the opening four.
