Emotions ran high at Real Madrid after the team’s loss to city rivals and fellow title contender Atletico Madrid on Saturday 27 February and in the thick of things top scorer Cristiano Ronaldo appeared to criticize his team mates in not so good words.
The defeat saw Real slump to 12 points behind league leaders Barcelona and Ronaldo, speaking after the game stated that Real Madrid would be top of the standings if all his mates were as good as him.
“If all my team-mates were at my level, we might be first,” he stated amidst a rant against the club’s medics, their preparations in pre-season and the team’s current performance, as well as a rousing defence of his own talent and statistics
The comments were termed arrogant and did not go down well with the club and after a day off, on Sunday, the team resumed training on Monday but not without an apology from the Portuguese international first.
Ronaldo, apparently stated that he had been taken out of context and the matter is expected to be put to rest as focus shifts to the game against Levante on Wednesday.
