Romelu Lukaku’s dream return to Chelsea has been stalled for the moment after Everton rejected a bid from Chelsea for him, but it is expected he will return to Stamford Bridge before the end of the current transfer window, according to reports.
Chelsea’s bid of £57m was turned down by the Tofees, according to the Mirror, but it is expected a deal will be agreed for the striker to rejoin the former Premier League champions.
Both Everton and Chelsea are currently in discussions over a fee, with the Merseyside club reported have insisted on a £75m fee, even though Chelsea are reluctant to go close to the quoted sum.
Antonio Conte is believed to be desperate to get another striker in following the capture of Michy Batshuayi, with Diego Costa increasingly likely to return to Atletico Madrid.
Interestingly, Chelsea sold Lukaku just two years ago to Everton for £28m, and are now willing to pay more than double the amount they sold him for in 2014.
The 23-year old has also not hidden his desire to return to Chelsea, as he feels he has some unfinished business at the club, after being sold by Jose Mourinho.
If Chelsea go on to pay anything close to the fee being demanded by Everton, it will go on to wrap this summer’s crazy transfer window which has seen Juventus cough out £78m for Gonzalo Higuain from Napoli, while Manchester United are reported to have agreed a £100m deal with Juventus for Paul Pogba.
