New Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr says the Super Eagles can qualify for the 2018 World Cup following the 1-0 Africa Cup of Nations win over Tanzania on Saturday.
The game against the Taifa Stars of Tanzania was Rohr’s first game in charge of the Super Eagles, and he believes they stand a good chance of making to Russia in 2018, as he believes the win over Tanzania has restored some confidence.
“I would say we have a good chance of qualifying for the World Cup,” Rohr said after the game in Uyo.
“This is a team that failed to qualify for the AFCON and needed confidence and the confidence is coming back gradually.
“We played well and any team who created 12, 14 chances in a match, that tells you it’s a good team. We were wasteful but we will work on our finishing.”
The 63-year old also said he was delighted to have won his first game in charge,
“I’m happy I won my first match,” he added.
